B Safal Coporate House, Landscape

The Landscape design for the Garden at B Safal Corporate House, is a design enquiry for Landscape of a corporate house typology. The project began with a query about questioning the typology for the Corporate Landscape OR Work space landscape. Much has been written about Institutional Landscape, so this project became an opportunity to redefine work space landscape. The brief of the project was to prepare a design idea for a 3000 sq mts of open space around the Monolithic Building of B Safal House. We felt that, the building designed by HCP, is an expression of the simplicity, modernity, clarity, honest expression of the real estate works that B Safal does. The building sits on a plinth, creating a sense of stranding strong on an immovable base, while the landscape design demanded a prelude to this strong base and the Monoblock Office.
The design process began with exploring the ideas for work space landscapes, where in “Garden in an office” or “Office in a Garden” was the dilemma while we began to sketch the first thoughts. The hidden brief of the garden design was not just to create a prelude for the building, but also to create a multi-functional space for the people who are working there. The Garden becomes a break out room for them, to have a troll on a pleasant summer evening or on a sunny winter morning. The Garden was also imagined to display and showcase the art collection and become an open art gallery.
The process began with an enquiry of design position of creating garden for office OR making an office in Garden. A break point of using” art” as a metaphor for the landscape vocabulary was imagined – Landscape as an art. When we talk about Landscape and Art – various names come to our mind, and out of all, we felt works of “Burle Marx” – an artist and Landscape architect, resembles our intentions of this project. We started looking at his designs, paintings, art work and that inspired us to look at landscape as art – a painting on the baren ground as our canvass, where the colors of nature became the palette but not just in two dimensions but a volumetric translation of the idea.
